With their victory over India in the third Test at Indore, Australia has advanced to the big event’s final. On the other hand, Sri Lanka might put a damper on India’s hopes to compete in the final. Here are some ways the Dimuth Karunaratne-side could hurt India’s chances of making it to the World Tennis Championship final when India plays Australia in the fourth and final Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test and Sri Lanka plays New Zealand in a two-match Test series.
For Team India, the quickest path
A victory in the fourth Test would ensure the team captained by Rohit Sharma a spot in the WTC final. Even if Sri Lanka wins both Test matches in New Zealand, they will no longer be in the running because of this.
Indian will be in trouble if they lose or draw.
If India were to lose or draw the last Test, Sri Lanka would get access. Therefore, in order for the latter to go to the WTC final in this instance, it must win both of its matches in New Zealand.
What happens if Sri Lanka loses both Test matches?
It is important to note that India will play in the World Team Championship final regardless of the outcome of Sri Lanka’s last game if they fail to win either of the two games in New Zealand.
